MB ChB 2003 University of Manchester
Dr Raf Patel is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Oxford University Hospitals, based mainly at the John Radcliffe Hospital, specializing in Vascular and Interventional Radiology since 2012. He works in our Chipping Norton clinic alongside Suzie Anthony, Raman Uberoi and Mark Bratby.
Raf graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School with Honours, initially undertaking surgical training and becoming a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. As technological developments in Interventional Radiology increasingly provided attractive minimally invasive alternatives to major open surgery, Raf then pursued training in Radiology to develop the skills for advanced image-guided intervention. Raf trained in Radiology at the Leeds Radiology Academy and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists with sub-specialty Fellowship-level training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
Raf specialises in the diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of complex arterial and venous disorders. Raf has published papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored book chapters, an international guideline in Interventional Radiology, presented educational and scientific material at international meetings and also been an invited speaker and tutor at international Interventional Radiology conferences. Working in a busy teaching hospital, Raf also enjoys being a tutor and supervisor for radiology trainees and junior doctors in Oxford as well as a peer-reviewer for scientific journals and examiner for the Medical School.
Away from work, Raf enjoys spending time with his wife, 8-year old son and 2-year old daughter, travelling together to explore distant cultures and cuisines when possible and also trying to spend as much time walking or cycling together to enjoy the beautiful local countryside.
