Can I have varicose veins treated while pregnant?
Unfortunately not. Many women who are pregnant suffer quite badly from varicose veins, so it would be nice if we could offer treatment to them during pregnancy. Unfortunately, the problem is that there are risks associated with doing anything medical to someone while they are pregnant, and the last thing you want to do is risk the baby.
We think that the risk is probably absolutely minimal, but it will never become ethically possible to treat pregnant patients. If you develop varicose veins while you’re pregnant, you will have to wait until the pregnancy is over until you can have treatment.
