Dr Athanasios (Thanos) Diamantopoulos is a globally renowned Consultant Clinical and Interventional Radiologist working at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London and he is also a Reader (Honorary Associate Professor) at King’s College London. He is a leading expert in endovascular arterial therapies and minimally-invasive cancer interventions and treatments.

Dr Diamantopoulos graduated from Patra’s medical school, in Greece in 2004. He continued as a Postgraduate student and as a research fellow in Interventional Radiology and in 2013, Dr Diamantopoulos received a PhD on experimental prevention of contrast-induced-nephropathy. He was trained in clinical and Interventional radiology in the prestigious department of Patras University Hospital and in 2012, he undertook an 8 months subspecialty Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals in London prior to be appointed as a consultant.

Dr Diamantopoulos has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers in radiology, surgical and basic science journals and several book chapters. He is regularly invited to lecture at national and international conferences. Notably, he serves or has served as the primary investigator or co-investigator in numerous research endeavours, spanning both public and commercially funded studies. His contributions to the field have been recognized with the prestigious Fellowship of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (FCIRSE). He is an active member of the British society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR) and the Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE) where he has served in several elected positions of the Society.

Dr Diamantopoulos’ clinical research focuses on the endovascular management of vascular disease and the use of new innovative devices to manage patients. He is equally dedicated to advancing the frontiers of minimally-invasive cancer treatments.

Dr Diamantopoulos is a highly respected clinician and researcher, and his work has made a significant impact on the field of interventional radiology. He is a pioneer in the development of new endovascular therapies for complex arterial disease, and his work has helped to improve the lives of countless patients.
