After living with varicose veins for over a decade, Mary finally took the step to seek treatment – and she couldn’t be happier! Not only has her confidence soared, but she’s also free from the discomfort that once kept her up at night. Mary’s advice to other people considering treatment? “I would say don’t delay. I waited 10 years to get this done, and I regret that. The procedure was so quick, and the results are really impressive.”
Mary first noticed her varicose veins around 10 years ago. At first, she ignored them, but over time, they became more prominent. “Gradually, over the years, the vein increased in size and became unsightly. It was particularly noticeable in the summer when I wore shorts and summer dresses, and I didn’t like the look of it.” she explains. As the bulging worsened, she also began experiencing discomfort. “At night, when lying still, I would feel a stinging sensation – it was throbbing, and I knew I needed to do something about it.”
From the moment she arrived at Veincentre, Mary felt reassured. “I was immediately approached by very friendly, welcoming staff—the team here are absolutely wonderful.” During her consultation, she met her Consultant Interventional Radiologist, Dr. Ammar who immediately put at her at ease. “I was made to feel so comfortable. She talked me through which treatment would be best for me, and I really liked that I was shown the scan of my veins. I could actually see where the blood was flowing in the wrong direction, causing the bulging and throbbing I was feeling!”
Mary decided to go ahead with her recommended treatment of Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). During the procedure, Mary felt completely supported. “The team talked me through what was happening as well as more relaxed conversations, which helped calm me. I felt I was in good hands.” The process was quick, and the results were better than she had imagined. “I was amazed at the appearance of my leg; the bulging vein had completely disappeared!”
One of the biggest changes for Mary has been her confidence. “I am far more confident in exposing my legs, so I often go to the gym wearing my shorts, and I feel really comfortable now.” She was also pleased to return to her active lifestyle quickly. “I felt really happy that I was able to continue my normal activities—I often cycle, run, and go on long walks, and I was encouraged to carry on with my normal activities after the procedure.”
