Profile
Dr Dexter Valencia is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at East Kent University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT), appointed in 2023. His clinical practice covers a wide range of minimally invasive emergency and elective procedures, including vascular intervention for peripheral arterial disease and endovascular repair of aortic aneurysms, venous and dialysis fistula interventions, and urological procedures such as nephrostomies and ureteric stenting. He also provides fibroid embolisation and gastrointestinal services, including radiologically inserted gastrostomies and long-term feeding tube management.
He completed medical training at Imperial College London and completed specialist Radiology and Interventional Radiology training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge (2017–2023), gaining Membership of the Royal College of Radiologists and sub-specialising in Interventional Radiology. During training, he developed extensive experience in emergency and elective vascular, oncological, hepatobiliary and transplant interventions, alongside high-volume reporting of ultrasound, X-ray, CT and MRI at a busy multispecialty trauma centre. He received multiple local awards for excellence in patient care during his training.
Dr Valencia is an active and valued member of the British Society of Interventional Radiology and has presented at several national conferences on vascular and oncological intervention. He is involved in national and international research trials and is a keen educator, regularly training resident doctors within EKHUFT. He has received excellent feedback from patients and colleagues, reflected in local awards across different NHS trusts recognising high standards of care.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He is a keen cook, home barista and guitarist, and enjoys running and swimming.
