Profile
Dr Marawan El Farargy is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
He trained in radiology across Glasgow, Hull, Reading and London, gaining his Certificate of Completion of Training, and holds the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) qualification. He went on to complete further fellowship training in interventional radiology in London and Lisbon, working in high-volume centres across the breadth of vascular and non-vascular intervention.
At VeinCentre, Dr El Farargy treats varicose veins using endovenous laser ablation, ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy and microsclerotherapy. His wider interventional practice covers complex work across several organ systems. In arterial disease this includes angioplasty and vessel stenting and the endovascular treatment of aneurysmal disease. In venous disease it includes embolisation for varicocele and pelvic congestion syndrome. He also performs uterine artery embolisation for fibroids and adenomyosis, liver and kidney interventions, portacath insertion, the creation and salvage of complex dialysis access, and a range of ultrasound- and CT-guided procedures. He established the uterine fibroid embolisation service at the Lister Hospital.
Dr El Farargy works as part of a multidisciplinary team in both his NHS and private practice, alongside vascular surgeons, gynaecologists, nephrologists and oncologists, and sees minimally invasive image-guided treatment as one option among several to be weighed up with the patient and their wider team.
He is on the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists, Member of the British Society of Interventional Radiology and the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society in Europe.
