Profile
Dr Nick Railton qualified in 2000 from King’s College Hospital, London, and undertook venous research in his early training. He trained in radiology in the Wessex deanery, completed a vascular/IR fellowship at Southampton University Hospital, and held a visiting fellowship at the Dotter Institute in Portland, Oregon, USA.
In 2011, he became a consultant at Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust (now MSE) and led the interventional radiology service for over a decade, developing the regional out-of-hours IR service serving about 1.2 million people.
Dr Railton’s specialist interests include venous disease, vascular malformations, and interventional oncology. He established the cryoablation service in Essex and served as chair and a founding member of the IOUK, the national interventional oncology group within the BSIR.
Away from work, Nick enjoys running marathons, coaching rugby, playing guitar in a band, and riding his motorbike. He’s a devoted father to three children who keep him modestly outpaced.
