Mr Devan Thavarajan MRCS FRCS(Edinburgh) FEVBS has been a consultant vascular surgeon from 2014. After completion of his initial surgical training at the University of Malaya in 2006, he has undergone specialist training in vascular surgery in several tertiary units including Liverpool, Bath, Durham and Edinburgh. He started as a substantive consultant at the South Mersey Vascular Network (SMART) based in Chester for a year in 2015/2016 before moving to Bristol.
He is the current clinical lead for the Bristol, Bath and Weston vascular network in the South West based at Southmead Hospital. He was the clinical director of the NSAAAP (national aneurysm screening programme) for the network from 2019-2022.
Devan has a wide-ranging NHS practice including aortic aneurysm surgery specialising in open repair, management of diabetic foot, lower limb revascularisation surgery for peripheral vascular disease and emergency vascular surgery.
He also has a wealth of experience in all aspects of varicose vein treatments and has been doing minimally invasive endovenous procedures for over 17 years.
Devan offers the full range of venous treatments including endovenous laser and radiofrequency ablations, foam sclerotherapy, avulsions and perforator ligations. He will be able to deliver a bespoke treatment plan based on the anatomy of your varicose veins to achieve the best outcome.
Devan has a particular interest in medical education and surgical training.
He is a faculty member for various regional and national training courses including UKETS.
In his spare time Devan enjoys playing badminton (represented Avon county in the veterans county championship) and squash (played club level competitions in Edinburgh), running and spending time with family.
