Mr George Dovell is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. He graduated from medical school in 2013 and completed his early clinical training at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. He went on to undertake core surgical training in Derriford before being appointed to the South West Vascular Surgery Training Programme in 2017. His higher surgical training included posts at major vascular centres in Bristol, Taunton, Cheltenham and Gloucester.
Between 2017 and 2019, Mr Dovell held a prestigious NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship, conducting research into outcome reporting in diabetic foot disease. He further enhanced his experience with a mid-programme fellowship at the University Hospital of Wales, focusing on renal transplantation, vascular access, and organ retrieval. On completing his UK training, he undertook a vascular surgery fellowship in Christchurch, New Zealand, gaining advanced experience in complex aortic surgery, thoracic outlet decompression, spinal access procedures, and renal transplantation.
Mr Dovell has been performing day case interventions for varicose veins since 2015 and offers both minimally invasive endovenous techniques and traditional open surgical options as part of his consultant practice.
A passionate educator and advocate for innovation in vascular surgery, Mr Dovell is currently championing the implementation of a new hybrid operating suite at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
Outside of work, he enjoys outdoor adventures and is a keen skier, cyclist, and runner. He can often be found training at his local gym.
