Profile

Mark Regi is a Consultant Vascular Interventional Radiologist. This is a medical doctor who specialises in minimally invasive image-guided surgery.

He specialises in all procedures to treat varicose veins.

In his previous life as an NHS consultant, he led Vascular Intervention within Trauma and complex aneurysm repair (EVAR) in Sheffield.

Mark trained in minimally invasive varicose vein treatments with Dr David West in 2014 and opened the Nottingham Veincentre clinic in the same year. He has now performed over 3000 laser treatments and many more sclerotherapy treatments. He has been performing embolisation of pelvic veins to treat varicose veins for over a decade. He is invited faculty at the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE) where he teaches European medical colleagues to perform varicose vein treatments. All of the interventions that he performs are within an artery or a vein and under imaging guidance.

He was previously the Network clinical lead for the South Yorkshire Major Trauma Network and IR trauma lead for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. He is also an associate editor for the trauma journal. He thoroughly enjoyed these roles and uses them to push forward Trauma care and interventional radiology care in the region for the benefit of patients.

His training has been thorough and planned, in high volume units with UK experts and leaders in fields. He initially chose a Basic Surgical Rotation to give him a good basis in surgical technique and practice. He gained a massive experience in Trauma by working in Emergency Medicine before and during his Radiology training. He was proud to be advanced life support (ALS) and advanced trauma life support (ATLS) instructor. Mark’s Radiology training was totally focused on Interventional Radiology, gaining the maximum experience possible in a number of excellent units in the South West region. He completed an IR clinical attachment for 6 months before becoming the Endovascular Fellow at the Sheffield Vascular Institute for 2 years. Mark is fully trained in all aspects of both vascular and non-vascular IR and has worked as a Consultant in both.

Mark’s other great interest is in medical education. He was a peer tutor throughout the medical school; completing a number of postgraduate teaching courses and teaching at the University of Sheffield regularly. He has a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education from Cardiff University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Bristol University and the University of Sheffield.

Over the last 10 years, Mark has volunteered for the charity Festival Medical Services and has provided emergency care and co-ordinated the Imaging services at the Glastonbury and Reading music festivals.

Mark’s career as a Vascular Interventional Radiologist allows him to combine hands-on clinical practice with his interest in medical education. He is passionate about driving forward developments in vascular interventional radiology to benefit patients.

Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time with family, walking his dogs and cycling in the Peak District.
